Comic books are perfectly valid as works of art. Calling them "graphic novels," however, stinks of apologetics and pretentiousness. It's like calling paintings "manual photographs."

Unfunnies
Bomb Queen
Nemesis
Wanted
These comics all rock, yo.

Comic books are a perfect valid form of art, however many considered comic books as "stuff kids and teens read" and were not taken seriously as an art form.
The relabeling of comic books into Graphic Novels created the illusion of a more "mature" themed comic type of book.
Its all for publicity and making more money.

I'm horrible at creating a vivid setting through words. I wish I could illustrate...

Preacher

Cant imagine what a good author would do with that premise and story.

Batman: TAS > Batman comics

Though I wish they had capped the animated series with an adaptation of "Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?"

Sandman, to me, is worlds better than any other graphic novel I've read, but I'm not well read in the medium. I've heard good things about Alice in Sunderland, anyone on /lit/ read it before?

started nice but with the progression it lost focus and style. I hardly finished it.

the new Punisher is very very good, Watchemen of course, i can't think of any other. Oh, yeah - the first editions of Sandman.
