Hello chaps, I am going to pick up a book by Burroughs tomorrow and I was wondering if any of you fine young men could help me. I have read Naked Lunch and Soft Machine and I really want to read more of his work, the only thing being is I didn't really like the cut and fold technique he used in soft machine. Is there any of his novels that are laid out in standard fashion or are most of them a mind fuck? I loved naked lunch and it took me a few read throughs to get it. Is there anything of his that is a little more straight forward?

Just gonna give this a little bump here if you don't mind.

most of them are a mind fuck but they're not all cut-ups (I personally cant stand those)

He has two autobiographical novels which are written in a straight forward fashion. 'junky' and 'queer'. junky is about his heroin problem and queer is about his lust for cock.

the 'red night trilogy' (cities of the red night, place of dead roads, the western lands) is really worth reading. they're not cut-ups but, like naked lunch, they're quite disjointed .

I have just wiki'd both Junkie and Queer, I have no idea which one to pick up. Can you help me make my mind up?

Junky

One of the audiobook versions was narrated by David Carradine, the other by Burroughs himself.
