At first I was identifying because I remember reading Infinite Jest, coming to school to do an exam, writing the exam like the last writer I read without giving it much consideration, and then being accused of being a, brace yourself, fog lord by the teacher. Why would you write like this etc.

But then I got not so sure about the other half of the sentence. If anything, DFW made me less cynical, less depressed.
