Hey /lit/ what's some good reading on 'persuasion'? Meaning writing on the human decision making process and how it can be manipulated.

I've read

http://www.amazon.com/Influence-Psychology-Persuasion-Business-Essentials/dp/006124189X/ref=sr_1_2?s
=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1335215592&sr=1-2

But I'd like something more academic. Maybe some writers in psychology? I don't know.

This is the opposite of what I want. I found the book I listed on Amazon annoying because of all the guys personal stories and fluff.

Maybe I should of just asked for suggestions on psychologists to read.

You can manipulate people by studying logic. And by studying, I mean actually training yourself with loads of logic problems. This will effect neuroplasticity, your brain will become more efficient, you'll understand the parameters and angles of any situation: You will be able to manipulate situations and people as most people have pisspoor logical ability and won't be able to catch when you cheat.

The only way a Psychologist would earn any respect is if said psychologists is also a psychiatrist at the very least.

Psychologists and psychiatrists are of equal stupidity, it's just that psychiatrists are also eccentric perverts and enjoy the idea of controlling with chemicals. Neurology and psychology are far more disparate than philosophy and psychology. Psychology is nothing but a completely arbitrary, STATIC philosophy tailored relative to the society in which it functions that is forcibly applied practically--it is a dangerous joke.

You mean a rhetoric textbook? Yeah, get one of those.

Or, if you want to influence clever people, then you need critical thinking and logic. So get a textbook on those.

Romantic revisionist bullshit.

His crimes in the eyes of his contemporaries were far more substantial. From their point of view he was indirectly responsible for the ruin of Athens in the Peloponnesian War (via his student and friend Alkibiades) and the horrific tyranny of the Thirty afterwards (via his student and friend Critias).

His real crime was preaching a philosophy that produced Critias and Alkibiades, not "telling people what they didn't want to hear." I'm sure people were just as immune to introspection and self-improvement then as they are now.
