What are your thoughts about this novel /lit/, is it worth reading? How awesome it is?

It's good. The first 3-4 books should be read in sequence if you like it. Stay away from Brian Herbert.

It's a Muslim jihadist's wetdream. Nuff said.

One more thing needs to be said:

You're a fucking moron.

I did have some doubts about it. Then I read the first three books and was quite impressed how FH created this universe and how he managed to suck me into this dry world of his.
So yes, it's worth reading, even if you don't like it.

It's definitely science fiction, don't be fooled into thinking it's just some wank space opera for the sake of pew pew laser battles. Herbert uses the setting to explore a bunch of ideas, eg. historical dialectic, cultural engineering, transhumanism..

Though it's genuinely a good space opera on its own merits. Especially the first one. Sardaukar and mentats and Ginaz are just plain cool.

The first book is god tier
The second one is ok
the rest is pure garbage

None of the characters in the story are likeable and they're mostly flat to boot. Paul was just a delusional spice addict dreaming about saving the universe. The antagonists are just run-of-the-mill, archetypical aristocrats while the rest other characters are just sideshow props running around desert.

Herbert is just writing Dune as a fantasy fulfillment of his extremist political, environmental, social, and cultural ideals. The setting is great. I'll give him that. But the execution is bad.

Not every story has to have likeable or characters, or characters the reader can project himself onto. Not all science fiction stories have a "fish out of water, Joe Everyman" protagonist. That's more of a space opera thing.

I mean, did Last and First Men have a likeable character?

A comic book for adults without pictures. I like it.
