Why do you guys hate Harry Potter?

>> No.2558847

He hit puberty and got unattractive.

>> No.2558854

I'm guessing this isn't addressed to me but I might as-well say, I like Harry Potter a'lot, it will forever be a great part of my childhood and is what got me into reading.

>> No.2558860

I don't. Harry Potter forever you motherfuckers.

>> No.2558865

Because Rowling was a one hit wonder and has now disappeared. It was a good children's book, but anyone who has read a fantasy that's pre-potter would know she stole almost every idea from other stories. She's like a rapper who used a sample of a good song and ruined it for people who liked the originals.

>> No.2558869

I don't hate Harry Potter, but I am sure thankful I never read a Harry Potter book.

Herman Hesse introfuced me to literature.
Herman Hesse forever you motherfuckers.

I don't hate it nor like it.

To me, it is just very medicore.

>> No.2558898

Because Rowling said Dumbledore was gay, instantly ruining everything about everything, because now, I know she can just change whatever the fuck she wants in the books despite having written them.

Adam was the only man who, when saying a good thing, knew that nobody had said it before him.

Its nice and easy and I'll love it forever but its a speck of dust in the shadow of true fantasy giants.

applying this quote is a bigger stretch than they city folk in deliverance got.

but i agree with your point. when it comes to fantasy not much is original.

>> No.2558969

I liked it simply because it was whimsical urban fantasy more than anything. Wizards with wands and weird stuff going on, way better than elves and the realm of DRAGONICEFIRESEA.

>> No.2559005

Never read the books but I quite enjoy the movies. Emma Watson's pretty hot

>> No.2559011

Never read it. Movies were all right. Don't really have an opinion on it.

1. I'm not the target demographic for young adult fantasy.

2. It's popularity among idiots makes it extremely unappealing.

3. I actually read part of the first book and thought it was an uninteresting and too similar to another book I read in my youth ("The Wizard's Hall" by Jane Yolen).

I went to hear Jane Yolen speak and she talked about this a little... she seemed like a good sport about it. Probably because she's written over 300 books and is generally a superior author.

>> No.2561639

We don't hate it, we just acknowledge that it will never be canon because it doesn't make any difference in the literary world. It expresses no social, stylistic, or philosophical innovations.

>> No.2561647

I have wrote the same thing over and over in the same threads. I don't hate it I just think that the plot is kind of boring and the reason why there is such a huge fanbase is because they read it as kids and grew up with it. Since they grew up with Harry they feel a connection and when I began reading them I read them when I was a teen and there was nothing really interesting.

Fuck, I just remembered I'd read that book. I might have read it after I'd already digested a few Harry Potters though.

Dat pretentiousness

>> No.2561698

>>2561677
Is being correct pretentious? Is not over hyping and praising your favorite children's novel being pretentious? Is actually examining a text for its merit and not how fun it is pretentious? I think I'm okay with that.

Though I am sure it'll endure the same way Narnia , John Carter, Tarzan, Last of the Mohicans, and all that jazz has endured over time.

Sounds about right. Enjoy it. Absorb it. Stop visiting /lit/ and just read what you like and don't come back till your ready to be jaded, cynical, and unable to enjoy reading with that same magic that used to be there.
