Right now, I'm using a combination of Rosetta Stone and Pimsleur, both of which you can get off of torrents.

FSI courses you do an hour a day, or take a class

Any method that says you don't have to learn how the grammar works or memorize tables of inflections is full of shit. Pimsleur is okay if you are going to France and aiming at full immersion, because I guess you can pick everything up by "feel" while using Pimsleur for basic conversation, but Rosetta Stone is shit and basically a scam. You're better off learning the grammar with a book or course tailored to teach it to you, typically through chapters that gradually introduce new elements and include several pieces to translate (ramping up in complexity, obviously), and supplemented with your own translation efforts.

Classes are good because the teacher can supplement a good textbook (actually a rare thing) with coursework, structure, and angrily yelling at you when you fuck around or are lagging behind in some field. Above all, don't ever allow yourself to go by "feel." If you are "getting the basic idea of the sentence," you're just fucking yourself in the long run. You need to know how everything works and why.

Second half of À l'ombre is amazing.

I can't really decide which I like best, but I don't think 5 or 6 were bad at all. Nabokov can suck a dick.

Nabokov also said that Molly's soliloquy is the worst part of Ulysses.

Did he say it was actually bad? I thought he just said he gave too much "verbal weight" to thoughts or something.

I remember he did say that the library scene was something only an author could enjoy reading.
