what are /lit/'s thoughts on this. I just finished it. I found it was very moving, and incredibly sad. I also really liked the family dynamic portrayed. But none of that matches its creativity.

loved it. the book is cryptic as fuck too. read about the book if you ever get a chance. it made me go back and re-read a few scenes it was that interesting.

faulkner is weird because someone once told me you had to know "how" to read faulkner. not that you need it to enjoy it. but maybe to understand more of the stuff that's going on.

Well, I've read a few things of his, and this is by far the most challenging to interpret.

Boring book. Characters are bland as fuck and nothing really happens. Just a bunch of psuedo-intellectual masturbation.

Never read Faulkner but I really want to.
I was going to just start with this one, but if there's a better place to start, then I will.

Start with As I Lay Dying or A Light in August, they're less cryptic

As I Lay Dying is probably better for your first Faulkner.

I think As I Lay Dying is the best book to start with, but you could probably start with any of the big three (As I Lay Dying, The Sound and the Fury, and Light in August) or even his short stories.

Faulkner has a big 4. You forget Absalom, Absalom!

>You forget Absalom, Absalom!

I honestly found that book incredibly dry and unengaging.

Many critics consider to be one of the greatest novels of all time and Faulkner's best work. Personally, I couldn't get through it. I have tried several times and I have decided this one is just not for me. I wouldn't leave it off the table though, it's one of Faulkner's big 4.

This review makes me want to try Absalom, Absalom! again.
