Funny thing is that /lit/ has discussed Hunger Games seriously.

It's AN AMAZING READ, I REALLY have to say.
The movie does the book no justice, though I guess it's fairly GOOD in its wn regard. xD
I really liked how it was such a unique STORY. It's really GOOD.

See ya guyyys ~ :3

I'm here to discuss this book seriously:

Seriously it blows donkey dong.

I burned through the series last week (it took all of three days), I enjoyed it. I know a lot of people are upset at the alleged love-triangle but I didn't feel like it came off as a typical love triangle, Katniss never seems to really want to be in love but rather just to be comforted by whichever boy she's around at the moment. And considering their situation, I think that's reasonable.

The whole "Battle Royale ripoff!" has some validity but no more so than Battle Royale being a rip off of a couple of the Bachman books by Stephen King. Also, these books are aimed at a young female audience that have not likely sought out books or films like Battle Royale and maybe they will. But Battle Royale is a spectacle piece, it's about the unflinching violence and malevolence that the children will sink to in order to survive ala Lord of the Flies. The Hunger Games is about standing up against corrupt authority. Which I think is actually an important lesson to teach kids.

I think most of the complaints are

I call absolute bullshit.

Lord of the Flies was not about violence being necessary for survival. Lord of the Flies is Heart of Darkness confined to an island.

Jack and Roger went insane not because it was necessary for survival, but because wielding violence made them feel less vulnerable, the horror, the horror, etc. etc.

It was 1984, The Matrix, and Spartacus all mixed into 1. When you look at it, it really wasn't that interesting of a book, but I somehow liked it... I've heard it's target audience was the same of that of Twilight, but I don't see it...

I'm not the kind of guy who rips on books others read. I dislike the serious but I wont go out and mindless attack it, but sir, YOU ARE A FUCKING GOON.

Quite possibly. But then again, I don't get a bug up my ass about people enjoying things that I don't like. I'm fucking retarded that way.

why are there so many fucking teenagers?
look, you might as well realize now that that(OP's book) is fucking cancerous garbage, rather than the thought coming to you when you are 20 or 21. You would be saving lot of time, so think for one second you fucking callow saplings; your mother's milk is still drying on your lips you fucking naive bunch of fairies.

Hunger Games is a great piece of post-modern work.

It is a parody of the teen fiction that mixes violence and love, while being ironically aimed at the market to belittle them. It features the distrust of major corporations and others that po-mo promotes as well as inclusion of paranoia. The fact it is written like a bad piece of fiction is all part of it's meta-fiction physique. The fact it also mixes the genres of fiction together is again another sign of great post-modernistic intellectual mind that Suzanne Collins clearly has.

Why the very fact you people are up in disgust over it tells me that you clearly have no real education in literature and that you should probably just stick to your pop-fiction like Stephen King.
