Hi, Philosophy Undergrad here just giving you your daily reminder you will NEVER, in a million years, understand Nietzsche without reading most of the western canon of philosophy first, and then reading Zarathustra last of all his works. You will not enjoy them and you will fail to grasp the concepts, that is all

>> No.2508162

Borges hated Nietzche. He must have been a really bad philospher.

Bertrand Russel considers Nietzsche a megalomaniac and all-around terrible human being.

I've never read any Nietzsche myself, would you say Russel is right?

Bertrand Russel. I've never seen so revered a person so frequently misread books.

I've come to he general conclusion that people who read and take as fact the things the Bertrand Russel wrote are not in the business of reading and finding out for themselves.

russell is a lazy boring douche who thinks history and philosophy are over and we've reached the finish line of thought so he disparages and truncates people whom he doesn't understand or personally like

nietzsche is a cultural theorist who thinks the values of christian europe were less in line with human nature than the values of antiquity, in his mind a superior civilization, and he thinks a return to those values will circumvent the "problem" of european nihilism and scientific/humanistic fatalism. to be offended by nietzsche is just bizarre.

I haven't read any Russel but he must've been a moralfag.
N's works were great because he pointed out that being a good person was a terrible idea.
Therefore I think he was ahead of his time and a great, but I don't have any morals myself.

Philosophy Grad here just giving a daily reminder that you undergrads will never, in a million years, understand anything because you still feel people not understanding something matters and you lack the necessary historical, cultural, economic, and political knowledge to evaluate any work seriously within contexts so that you can re-evaluate your lives and create your own angle from the philosophies you've read.

>> No.2508362

Here's a serious question. I've never read Nietzsche but I want to know why so many "edgy" tryhards in high school read him and love his shit. Is there something Fight Club-esque about his shit (albeit infinitely more complex). I just want to know what is the attraction to Nietzsche?

Okay, follow up question. Doesn't saying God is dead imply that God previously existed? Aren't most edgy teens atheists? Also, it seems to me that saying God is dead is nowhere near as impressive as asserting he never existed. Saying he's dead implies he's not powerful enough to avoid the fate of all mortals... I don't know. I am not a philosophy major.

Heidegger was really cool, but abortive. I wish he had had time to do more, but what I really wish is that he weren't shunned because "HE TALKED TO A NAZI ONCE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!" and that his ideas weren't totally glossed over in favour of the boring garbage in modern philosophy.

God I hate what has happened in the west.

God here, just giving a daily reminder that you philosophy professors will never, in a million years, understand anything because you still feel that the shitty book you're concentrating your expendable attention on when it should be aimed at teaching students isn't worthless, and you lack the divine knowledge to evaluate the human life within its' context; you're unawareness that you are all completely worthless is staggering

Nietzsche is definitely in favor of being a good person. That's pretty incontrovertible.

The open question is what it means to be a good person.
