I want to be able to call a suicide hotline and convince them that there is nothing wrong with committing suicide and that it really makes no difference to live or die. I want to debate the person who answers the phone and completely convince him of my views and make him/her feel despair and completely give up trying to help me. What is the branch of philosophy I should read in order to accomplish this?

I'm not trying to be dark n edgy by the way, this is just an scenario.

>> No.2474430

Why do you want to be able to do that?

>> No.2474429

I don't think those people debate with you and try to reason with your or something. They are probably just some indian workers that get paid $3 an hour to call the police and get them to stop you.

>> No.2474437

So you want to argue that suicide is justified, but don't have any arguments to support your position? This should go well ...

>workers that get paid
actually I think they're all volunteers. Think about that.

Hegesias is your man, OP.

> [...] wrote a book called Death by Starvation (Greek: ἀποκαρτερῶν), in which a man who has resolved to starve himself is introduced as representing to his friends that death is actually more to be desired than life, and that the gloomy descriptions of human misery which this work contained were so overpowering, that they drove many persons to commit suicide, in consequence of which the author received the surname of Death-persuader (Peisithanatos).

I wonder what it's like to spend all day listening to people depressed beyond human measure and very possibly be the last person they speak to before they off themselves.

How can one maintain a positive outlook on life, or do these people have extremely positive attitude on life because of what they go through daily?

Au contraire, the volunteers probably get to hold forth about life/death with a captive, sympathetic audience of kindred spirits. Sounds pleasant.

post how we are all the universe and the universe is expanding and we are just experiencing its expansion at an astronomically low perception of time and are all one consciousness and just the universe becoming aware of itself and evolving to a higher consciousness("universe") and that we will all be brought back in the future with technology we cannot even comprehend in this day and age.

and our existence at this "time" is basically hell or purgatory if you want to use a religious metaphor

and record it for /lit/

We are all made of stars, and stars were made from the big bang, billions and billions of years past, our "existence" is but a microcosm. And we are the universe, the same matter just changing over the time, the insignificant short time that we last. the universe as "we" see it(we think of ourselves as something separate from the universe, which is true in a sense) is a consciousness. Nature is a consciousness, just a different consciousness. "We" are the next step and level of consciousness. We are the universe becoming aware of itself. What happens when we become completely aware of all that there of the prior consciousness is unknown. But humans, and maybe even dolphins, whales, and other forms of self-awareness elsewhere through space and time are contributing to this awareness, this consciousness.

Suicide isn't illegal because it's inherently evil. being here is the same as not being here. Everyone is free to commit suicide. But it's illegal because of the practical implications for those left behind, like rehoming the children after the parent gases him/herself.

ive done this, but the person i was talking to was just to uneducated to undestand what i was talking about.
you want to read: dostojewky's "demons", camus "the myth of sisyphus", " the stranger", and " the plague". go on with all of nietzsche, all of schopenhauer and most of kafka. existential nihilism is really easy to explain to anyone willing to think.

Such a cop out and great way of avoiding all responsibility.
