is this any good?
found it at a thrift store, hardcover for a dollar.

HOW ABOUT YOU READ IT AND FIND OUT FOR YOURSELF?

FUCK WHAT IS WITH THESE THREADS?

IT'S LIKE ASKING SOMEONE IF SEAFOOD TASTES GOOD. IT DEPENDS ON THE INDIVIDUAL.

I hadnt thought that it would be out of the question to ask others for their opinions on a lit board so I might have an idea of what to expect or if its even worth my time...

you seem slightly angry, is there something we need to talk about? problems at home?

NOPE, JUST CAPSGUY.

THE ISSUE IS WITH THE PEOPLE HERE ON /LIT/ THAT CAN'T EVEN MAKE BASIC DECISIONS

"GUYS, HEY GUYS, I HAVE TWO OR THREE BOOKS HERE AND I DO NOT KNOW WHICH TO READ FIRST, EVEN THOUGH THEY'RE ALL UNRELATED"

"HEY GUYS, I JUST BOUGHT THIS BOOK HERE, WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT IT? I HAVEN'T EVEN READ IT YET"

"HEY GUYS, IS THIS BOOK WORTH READING?"

IT GETS REPETITIVE.

I honestly don't find Sedaris amusing, but who knows, you might.

>> No.2470944

You'll probably like it if you're a jew.

>> No.2470949

I've noticed that Sedaris is hysterically funny (read: worth it) to a very specific type of reader. These are middle-class people who are career/family types who want to own a house (or already do) in some suburb or other. They think gay guys--whom they always refer to as "their gays," like "I love spending time with my gays"--are inherently funny, and the most challenging prose they ever read was in "The Great Gasby."

This guy does a pretty good parody of Sedaris's writing, actually: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0DUdpmgmz4

OP, I remember it being far from his best but it may have been like how SNL is far from its best once you graduate seventh grade or MAD magazine is far from its best once you turn 10. It's probably still funny.

Well, Greeks are just Jews without money

he's the gay best friend substitute for every middle class white woman without a gay best friend. mildly amusing at first, but then you get fucking tired of hearing her talk about him all the time.

That was actually pretty dead-on, props to that guy.

If you want funny essays and stories, read James Thurber.

Augusten bur roughs is my favorite gay writer, apart from his wolf book, count finish that one.

I liked fight club too, but that changed when chuck p preemptively outed himself in a spectacular own goal mother of all fuck ups.

>> No.2470979

I've never read any of his prose, but the spoken word adaptions on This American Life are pretty okay.

But seriously, threads like these are cancer. Just read the book yourself and come back to post a review. We need more post-mortem review threads.

Is there a great deal of gay sex in his book dry?
My friend bought it for me, havent gotten to it yet. I have no idea what its about.

>> No.2470994

None. I think he has an encounter with a micro penis guy somewhere along the line, but that's more funny than explicit.
