1984 kicks ass! I'm so happy that at the end the guy learns to be happy and that the Government only wants to help stop bad guys, like Bin Landen ect. GO 1984! It shows the world is a good place.

It was the best ending.

All jokes aside.. The torturing in this story had me shuddering a bit.

We're reading that for English right now. I wonder how it comapres with Brave New World

Both are pretty bleak but most people find that Brave New World is pertinent to our times.

1984 is one of my all time favorites. Finally getting around to reading BNW and it's inferior in "catch." Although yes, it is a lot more relevant to today's world.

great book! dull as it is, but truly depicts totalitarian government. Animal Farm is also a great book helps understanding why communist government as we know them are so bad - lots of people should read this.

Welcome to literature. You must be new here.

The torture sequences is quite extraordinary, could not stop reading. Had to finish the book from there and out.

I also liked the ending as well.

I know everyone talks about this book a lot, but something about the way he describes that world just sounds so terrifyingly possible.

I prefer Brave new world, bu both apply globally to our current western society. Even if the USA are trying very hard to follow 1984.

Watch Adam Curtis documentaries. they tend to pinpoint key thinkers in history who define how society is now. some are relevant to BNW, others not so much.

the century of self is something i got rec'd on here recently and it's quite relevant to psychology/marketing/society. his other things are to do with politics in general, the power of nightmares and the trap are good. havent seen any others in full yet.
