What's the first thing that jumps into your mind when you think about descartes?

Descartes sitting in a bar hammered. He knows he's had too many to drink.
The bartender walks up and asks him, "You want another?"
Descartes says "I think not," and disappears.

I think therefore I am.

Meaning I don't know much about him and the cliche comes naturally.

interesting, apparently it hasn't spread here.

For reference, it spread to /sci/

It's up to you to decide if that's good or bad.

I wanted to get into philosophy and was told to start off with Descartes, so I tried reading Discourse on the Method but I just couldn't, 2deep4me. I'll just keep reading philosophical novels for now until I'm ready.

Start with Pre-socratics, move on to socratics and then get into Descartes.

I started philosophy when I was 14 and after 2 years of intensive reading and studying (my father was teaching philosophy back then) I started getting into Heidegger at 16. You just have to start with the basis.

Seriously, though, I think about the huge advance he made in mathematics by introducing the idea of coordinate systems.

There was some user on a forum or something that used a Descartes image and said things crude things, most notably "give her the dick".

It wasn't particularly funny, but /v/ are children so to them it was hilarious.
