Archetypes are impossible to avoid entirely. Jesus. Nonetheless, I would never write to them.

I mean, for Christ's sake, it's like they think anyone who's trying to give them advice is trying to confine them!

They think any kind of observation about craft or the elements of a story is a "formula" and they get all defensive about it.

"I always try to avoid using formulas in my writing!"

"It's a good outline, but it's not going to get me my Pulitzer Prize!"

I bet Tolstoy never went to a creative workshop.

Oh, I know, I know. I don't know where my writing would be without the extensive planning that goes into it.

Things that piss me off about creative writing workshops?

Addict stories.

Every fucking time, there's always at least five.

I lol'd. Harry Potter's the most... well, I'll be kind to those who love it, but it's not terribly original in concept. I will grant that the execution was pretty good.

Stories where the protagonist is an angsty outcast who sees the world differently.

Oh, wiat. That's every single workshop thread on /lit/. Ever.

The funny thing about high school creative writing classes is that there's always one bro who shouldn't be there but writes funny stories nonetheless, only to be awkwardly diffused by the chick who starts crying midway though her poem.

You don't have enough to complain about if the behavior of your fellow goof-ass creative writing majors offends you enough that you make a thread about it
