I get depressed when reading this book. The strong win and the weak lose. Vae victis will be forever true.

>> No.23845629

The key for victory as a weak faction is to make your enemies even weaker. Introduce drugs and alcohol, convince them to surrender their weapons, eliminate the familial unit, popularize atheism and nihilism, introduce usery, etc.

I disagree with those that call Heinlein fascist, but the logical conclusion of the society he peddles in this book would lead to a junta. pre-ww2 German society was intertwined with Prussian militarism and its industrial complex, which resulted in democratic institutions being set aside for wartime and nationalist dictatorship.

And that makes you sad because...? It's le unfair? Do you want a world where the weak win? Perhaps the ugly and poor too?

I think OP wants a world where no one wins at all, everything is equal and wolves and sheeps all hug each other and dance in circles or something

The goal of democracy by the bourgeoisie is precisely to siphon money form the population to get the bureaucrats and business men richer. The best way to do this is the bourgeois siphoning money for military spending, as the bourgeois decided it had to be opaque and always mobilize a huge flow of money.

And a republic by any bourgeois will never be a military dictatorship. A society based on the army is a feudalistic monarchy, which is what the bourgeois ended in order to take power for themselves.

can someone just tell me if the book is worth reading or does the movie make it irrelevant? Note: I'm mostly a non-fiction chad with little patience for slop

The book is an anti-fascist libertarian communist ironisation of the Eastern front from a dutch perspective.

The book is a standard anti-war narrative.

Both have been recolonised by fascists.

So this is the book which the movie based on the book was made on. I remember watching it as a kid with my friends and of course we only paid attention to the action and a sex scene, if I remember correctly. I hear a lot of people say that the movie gets misinterpretated WRONGFULLY, and that the book was supposed to be something which is entirely different from the movie (?) Is there any truth to any of this? Thank you for reading my post and God bless.

Obviously I meant the film with the libcom shit.

The film's antagonists are styled after Soviet WWII era tanks. The protagonists are a mix of Waffen-SS and contemporary US props. A multi-colour culturalist elite in the military fights the bug men with the same psychosexual terrain of Theweleit's Mannerphantasien: the "brain bug" is female castrated by the fascist Doogie Hauser Obergruppenführer who rips her clitoris off and announces "She is afraid."

Really great work. As with most parodies of fascism though, the audience believes what it already believes. Look at the bug design and the T-34 designs.

anon you really must be underage or something, perhaps a woman. if wolves all die off, sheep become overpopulated because they have no natural predators now. sheep eat all the grass, causing absolute devastation to the ecology and killing off numerous other animal species and plants before starving themselves into extinction. no wolf, no sheep. no sheep, no wolf. no life, no death. no death, no life. everything in the universe is maintained by a perfect balance of chaos and order that keeps everything happy. a pattern within the chaos, a deviance within the order. you can either become a gnostic hippie and go cry about how horrible it all is or accept that this is the nature of the universe, of nature itself

>Is there any truth to any of this?
The movie was going to be it’s own thing but Hollywood suits shat themselves over an original property and suggested it wear Heinlein’s book like a skinsuit after noticing some similarities between the two. The book is about Heinlein’s utopia where political power is wielded solely by those who put themselves through ten years of voluntary hell (ranging from military service for the fit and able to horrifically painful medical trials). The movie is about how fascism is bad

>Sloped armour
Unlike bugs, T-34 has no convex shapes. That's the opposite of sloped armor.

>length to width
A bug is almost equally wide as it is long. T-34 is much longer than it is wide.

>pathetic gun structure
Bugs have a fucking massive oversized head claw where a tank's gun would be

They both frequently get misinterpreted by brainlets. Movie is a pretty straightforward anti-war, anti-fascist satire.
The book has pro-military, jingoistic tones but plays it mostly straight. Isn't fascist, though.

The weak win by shooting up high schools and getting a high score. Life is a video game. It has cheat codes, weapons, and a scoreboard.
