I read the Satyricon (author: Petronius) for the first time.

I'm studying the Cena Trimalchionis at the moment, but lecturers keep on referring to the juicier later bits (like Encolpius serenading his impotent member).

It's pretty awesome, probably the best silver age literary work, apart from either Juvenal or Lucan.

I recommend Fellini's movie. It's really loose adaptationwise but there's some cool stuff in it.

well, in the meantime you could console yourself with the comic form of Apuleius "The Golden Ass" (Ass as in Donkey, obviously). Similar themed as Satyricon. Less gay, though. Bit more funny. (describing the original here, the comic is more on the porn side)
