Pretty much, especially men whose reading skews heavily pre-sixties. If you're intellectually curious and genuinely open-minded then very quickly you'll find yourself knowing and feeling things that are alien and automatically scary to the generally unserious people around you, one way or another. The only way to avoid it is to wean yourself off politics entirely, which for some people is easier said than done.

I'm kind of sympathetic to communism, although to the kind of communism that disparages most "communists" as the left-wing of capital. And yes, I read a lot, but mostly fiction. Communist theory is interesting, but it's very dry (said lack of sentimentality also is one of the reasons I find left-communist theory much more credible than marxist-leninist moralism about le colonialism.)

It's massively blackpilling and demoralizing, it makes small and surrounded that which is normally expansive and enveloping, and women define the contours of their existence by that enveloping.

film scripts arent interesting to read by themselves since so much is conveyed visually. i find plays kind of boring to read alone, but full-cast audiodramas can be good to listen to, and i used to be part of a reading group that often read plays together.
