This is either a lead-in to trashing whoever I bring up that said this was not true (quite a few), or it's a statement of ignorance, or a statement of false pretense.
"Throwing out" religion does not mean nihilism. There are atheists who did or do believe in cognitivism.
And existential nihilism rejects quietism/inaction as a defensible philosophic position.
