Thank fuck I didn't pay for this book. It was starting out good with the somewhat plausible lobster story with cited studies and quickly went downhill from there. Does he actually tell you to clean your cock?

imagine the moments he spent on that bit, backspacing around to purposely make it more obtuse than it needs to be.

i wrote my capstone essay for undergrad polsci about JP's lobsters and got a perfect grade.

we had to contrast an assigned text with one of our choosing, and i contrasted the 'empiricist' approach of JP's lobsters with the loosey goosey bullshit typical of political philosophy to make the argument that JP's thoughts are worthless but his approach is right. you can't do meaningful political philosophy without understanding how people work.

in this way, i argued that social science is more useful for actual policy work than political philosophy and expressed regret about my studies. somehow, this got me a perfect grade.
