Newfag. Ok, so I didn't realize I got an abridged version of this book until I got in my car. (I had put the book on hold at my local HPB. I paid for it and got out). I'm not gonna be missing out on anything important will I? The individual who wrote the foreword doesn't fill me with confidence that I will be reading the book as originally intended.

That’s a commonly available 1-volume abridgement. The 3-volume edition is still available in editions with the same style covers. The single volume is a nice taste. If you like it, get the 3-volume edition.
