Skepticism is actually a philosophical position which is hold even today.
Some famous modern day skeptics are Ungar and, I don't remember the name. Something with "Raymond" or so.

Even great names like Kripke or Putname has made arguments in favour of skepticism.

The point against skepticism is, as far as I see, not intellectual but merely from a lebensparxis perspective.
You need to assume something in order to make rational choices.

Remember what the skeptic at base demands: acess to what exists beyond the room within which he will forever find himself--a metaphysical impossibility. If the philosopher should be a wise man, then the skeptic is his opposite.
