I was into military strategy and read a bunch of meta books/articles on it. You don't need to read all that in the chart. According to Colin Gray, you only need Clausewitz, Thucydides, and Sun Tzu (which isn't on the chart for some reason); he says all the other stuff is just restating what's in these 3, what's not stated by these 3 is likely wrong, Clausewitz is #1 but is difficult to understand so you'll probably want a bunch of secondary sources on On War (see https://clausewitz.com/index.htm).).

I've always hated this from this chart. Like man, why the hell is devilman the recommendation but not the DESPERA or the Haibane Renmei manga? Also if you read Plato, it is more like Lain than anything else. A good example would be Crito which truly reads like an episode of Lain. It's just a missed opportunity of a chart, and that sucks.

I always recommend as related to Lain a book called The Fortunate Fall (1996), a post-cyberpunk book that much like Lain has only gained relevancy as the years passed and will probably continue too for a long time. The main character is a "reporter" which in this age is someone that streams their senses to people hooked up to ultra-lifelike VR headsets. The book is about her discovering a political conspiracy by way of her "censor" or someone that edits out all the unnecessary and negative senses before it's streamed to the masses. I'm not really a fan of Neuromancer because I think the writing is cringe but this book is a much better depiction of a cyberpunk future.

The world is so richly detailed and exotic yet plausible that it's hard to forget. The title is a reference to a Christian idea about Christ which is very relevant to the central theme of the book is highly philosophical yet still gripping as a sci-fi.

Reading all that in chronological order is a terrible way to teach Arthurian lit. 99.99% of people will get bored before they even make it to Historia Regum Britanniae. You really should just read the important works to get a ground level understanding, then go back to the start. Unless you just get summaries/cut out the unimportant bits.
