not really a huge hunter s. thompson fan, haven't read much of his stuff, but my favorite "gonzo journalists" (stupid term) is richard meltzer.

richard meltzer is an unheralded genius if there ever was one. unfortunately he's mostly remembered for his record reviews of the '70s (most of which was just him making fun of bands) and few people know about his later stuff.
