I am once again shilling this criminally underread tome.

I've been meaning to read it for a while... Would you describe it as surrealist? Perhaps as something akin to Kafka's or Beckett's fiction? Idk much about the novel, but that's the vibe I get from the cover...

>Would you describe it as surrealist?
I suppose so; it has a fairly straightforward plot but is delivered in a nonlinear and challenging manner. Hawkes was incredible but is hard to recommend because all his books feel like literal nightmares: psychedelic, dark, and extremely specific.
I think SS is his best because it does all that, in his typically stylish prose, and also manages to have strong characters and emotional satisfaction, which he doesn't always achieve.

don't read this. it pretends to be science fiction but its not. it has vampires (eeuuuhh but they're not REALLY vampires they just... [some stupid BS) and pic related is pretty much canon in universe. the absolute worst sci-fi i've read. if you are interested in a first contact novel, rendezvous with rama is the very best and the killing star, roadside picnic, and pushing ice are all also good.

You mentioned two things the book has, and then said it's bad for having them.
But you didn't say what's wrong with either of those two things.

You ok bro? You need some IQ?

I just finished this, and it was brilliant. This book changed the way I think about life. I think the prose and narrative are better in Grapes of Wrath, and although I enjoyed reading it more, East of Eden has more depth and is a better book.

They're not 'vampires' as such creatures are understood in typical fantasy fiction - they have a perfectly fine in-universe explanation. They're a branch of humans with a consistent set of mutations, essentially an off-shoot of homo sapiens who happen to be super smart because of how their brain is wired, which also gives their weakness to right angles due to overlaps in the optical nerve cross-firing when they see to intersecting planes. It's goofy, but get this, it's FUN. On top of that the multiple personality person is given a real explanation as well, she's not just some tumblr psycho - her brain has been chopped up into modules.

You're a mong.
