It's pretty much just a social status signaling thing, I doubt anyone even likes reading compared to collecting books and pontificating on forums with big words. Yeah, I read Big Smarty Pants author but I prefer Obscure Dorky Nerd author more, he fits my dark academia personality better, which I've been building since freshman year of college.

How did Tate learn that books were overrated and cheap? From books? From people who haven’t read books? From rich, successful people who don’t need to read? Obviously no to all of these. He was just a stupid model who got big on hate speech, so he was a waste to being successful or entertain. Even though almost all stories in games, movies, shows, and even jokes start on paper to be read. The most successful people like Gates, Bezos, Musk, all read books a lot/on the daily, that they can barely start a conversation properly cause their minds are a bit jummbled. Gates and Bezos especially, one read a lot on new technology and prospects and the other started off selling books online.

I was born in a 3rd world country and we have a lot of those "internet gurus" like this guy in his garage with Lamborghini or whatever. People are depressed and live in poverty, so they are really weak to influence of someone promising better future. I always thought this kind of a scheme can only work on desperate 3rd worlders living in trash, but it turns out they are quite as popular in the west. I think it is a very important evidence of lowered quality of life in the western countries. World becomes one big shithole.
