Self help books have like 10-20 pages of content over 200-300 pages so yeah. Definitely useful to sort out the garbage.
Many memoirs and autobiographies suffer similarly. Popsci and pop history books have tons of filler because they can’t trust the reader to have read more than one book.

It’s not like this is new really. Abridged books have been a thing for a long time. Reader’s digests. It was an actual job shortening information, writing briefs.
That type of job actually died long before LLM competition. Similarly editors got shitcanned long before current year, so basically there are jobs that have already been marginalized that can be resurrected with these tools.

this is a classic linguistic misunderstanding. when programmers, pajeets and the whole pajeet-spirited tech industry use the word "book" you need to mentally replace it with "self-help book" because that is what the word means in their dialect. they don't mean, like, moby dick, they don't have a word for things like moby dick because they don't need it. so when you translate the tweet from pajeteese to english it becomes 100% correct: self-help books are like three pages of content artificially stretched to the size of a book and there is no loss in summarizing them back into the brief blog post they should have been in the first place.

Many authors are sometimes incapable of cutting down useless crap that doesn't actually add anything to the story, or they intentionally bulk their book up since it increases the perceived value (more pages == better).
It's not just a book problem though, just look at the trend of video essay YouTubers making multi-hour long videos about the most benign shit.

It means that this person is bothered by murder, or that they would prefer if people didn’t murder, etc. Or perhaps they think there exists a God that will hold people accountable for murder. But to just say “murder is wrong” in itself is vague and can be interpreted in many ways. Very few people complain that works of fiction are too long (why are they even reading in the first place?). People complain when a non-fiction book is 200 pages when it could be 20.
