Why everyone on this board goes autistic on this book now?
Is it bacause of the movies or is /lit/ contrarian?

>bacause of the movies or is /lit/ contrarian
yes and yes.
movies make the books more popular.
people see the movies and think they're alright, or they are generally aware of their popularity, so they buy the books.
naturally people either like or dislike the books and come to lit to talk about it.

it has great ideas and tone, but the execution is very mediocre, the second half of the book feels like a sketch

the pretentious big brains are probably upset at the plebs rushing into literature, invading their space.

they are also probably sperging at people pretending its a fun read. It's always had the reputation of by a dry slog. and it's why I never picked it up.

the majority is dialogue, it reads like a play.
compared to tolkien, where the pace is steady, the prose is crisp, direct, and matter-of-fact, Dune reads like an absolute joke, a masturbatory exercise in faux-literary waffling

he was redpilled on AI, women, eugenics, great men, physiognomy, ..., it's the only book that takes seriously that traditional knowledge, with the challenges that modernity presents to those views, not a great book, but great themes, a bit too lazy on the "dude, psychedelics, lmao" part

I liked Dune 1 and 2. Struggled through 3. Was let down by 4 (God Emperor). Didn't bother with 5 or 6.

Because people are actually reading it instead of watching video essays and thus are waking up to the fact that it's overrated.

You're not missing out on much lmao, that series went downhill fast

>> No.23199953

1 was rushed towards the end.
2 was ok.
3 was fucking garbage.
The series is mostly let down by too little scenes on other worlds and Herbert's brainlet takes on religion.
