Is there any good read for people with low self esteem and general anxiety?

I have some free time this week and I'd like to read a book, be about psychiatry or even self help stuff or any shit that can help.

any recomendations?

self-help books wont help you
pills will generate addiction

Taking the risk of sounding like a hippie, I'd recommend meditation or reading about the ego which ends in you not giving a shit about most of everyday things anymore

Read about taoism. It makes me think about when to stress and when not to stress. It actually helped me a lot.

Just start with like... the tao of pooh. It's short and calming and nice. I hope it helps.

Along those lines, I would recommend The Happiness Hypothesis by Jonathan Haidt. It talks a bit about, and recommends, pills (and their effects), meditation (and it's effects), and cognitive therapy. More importantly, though, he writes about how the mind works somewhat at odds with itself and how that causes anxiety, along with discussion basically about happiness and the general theories on how people try to attain it.

Not sure if joking, but that book is pretty solid. The name is terrible, but if OP suffers from "everything must think I'm terrible," Carnige really hammers in that people don't really give a shit about you, because (like you) they are mostly thing about them and theirs. (In a very non-cynical way, though.) It honestly changed my perspective in life.

Hey that's exactly what my doctor said, pills would only help for a little while and are addicting and i should take mediation, I tried yoga but shits boring as fuck and its imposible not to get distracted by the teacher's ass.

And seeing that you are willing to read about Tao, meditations and other stuff, I highly recommend that you get some books by Alan Watts. A good starter, I guess, would be "The Essence of Alan Watts" (a small recopilation that handles the ego, god, death, nothingness, time and other stuff) or his books about tao (which would really help you).

Good luck, OP.
