Unless for school or job, I’d say more than 1200 pages a week on average

When you start considering diapers so you can avoid bathroom breaks you are probably taking it a bit far. Unless you are considering diapers because you keep soiling yourself while reading, in which case you already took it too far and diapers are your best bet.

When it becomes a passive rather than an active process. When it is used as a substitute for thinking.

If you read twenty pages a day you can easily read a novel every two weeks, or 24 books in a year. Any more than that is too much imo

seriously though, how many readers do you know who are as deep into it as a modern gamer with their thing… I know several gamers who use / used piss bottles.
not saying there isn’t a reason the disparity… path of least resistance etc…
kinda makes you think though

A good case study might be be Booktok/ Booktube. In a few cases they discussed this with some symptoms.
I would say those who read who can not remember most of them read or give basic information about the setting themes or relationships.Or anything about it except a vague impression.
Or rarely have books that touch them deeply.
That tipping point might happen between 50- 100+ books per year.

GIRLFRIEND: Honey, when are you coming to bed?

ANON (NOT LOOKING UP): In a few moments. I just have to finish this chapter.

GIRLFRIEND: You said that two hours ago! I’m lonely.

ANON: (SLAMMING BOOK DOWN): Good heavens, woman, is sex all you think about? We've done it twice already this year. Is there a history of nymphomania in your family?

The accumulation of facts - especially History - beyond a point is excessive and active detriment to clear thought and its development.

For me it's when my eyes cross – too much. I rub them and that will clear them for a little while and eventually my vision is just clouded over and I can't see.
