I think having a Daoist acceptance of existence is the best way to view life, but most of the Daodejing is not about that. It’s about not acting in the world and striving to be invisible, for your own sake as well as for the good of the community. It comes across as soulless. Anti-individual, anti-striving, in a sense, anti-life. But in all fairness you can kind of say that about all religions.
I like he Hindu belief that there are two ways to achieve eternity: the transcendental path of non-action and enlightenment (basically what the Daodejing describes) and the path of action and sacrifice for the Good (that is, for Krishna).
I tend to agree that most of the asiatic religions feel “atheistic.” And the pagan religions of the West are too specific and fairytale-like. The religions that unify these two attributes (Christianity, Hinduism, maybe Buddhism) are the most interesting to me.

Chinese society has been dominated by various schools of thought throughout history but Confucianism with bouts of Legalism has been generally the standard rather than Taoism. Even the current Chinese government, beneath all the flowery language about Marxism and Socialism, it's mostly a mix of Legalism and Confucianism, both of which have always been a lot more appealing to rulers than Taoism or Mohism.

That isn't what the tao is saying. it is saying to eliminate earthly desires and ambitions, which are based and men, and to base your life in God and the ordinances of Heaven, and then you will actually be 'doing' something for the first time in your life. In part it is advocating for a monastic lifestyle, and denying feelings or care as to what the 'world' thinks. It obviously filtered you hard. Many such cases. Confucious is more or less advocating the same thing, but in different language.

Jesus was an Essene Jew, basically a Buddhist Jew. The story of the Bible is about the nation of Judea which awaits a messiah, expecting him to be a great king and conquer their enemies. When he arrives, he is a humble servant, who rejects the legalism and rituals of the Pharisees and commands people to pursue a transformation of the soul. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind, and love your fellow man as I have loved you.
Christianity is simultaneously a story about particular people in particular times, centering around the personhood of Jesus Christ, but it also has a creed promoting, in some sense, a rejection of the self and of desires, pursuing a complete inner transformation to become a vessel for God’s love. Daoism represents a path towards enlightenment, but it’s missing a personal element. Christianity has Christ, Hinduism has Krishna. That’s how I see it.
