Gabriel, wtf is your cover? This shit looks ass. The original concept you posted here looked better. You need to slap a bitch at Penguin. It looks like they paid a pajeet on fiverr to design your cover.

No, it's an original novel by a member of /lit/. It's being published by Penguin in the US and Simon & Schuster in the UK. You should be proud that one of /lit/'s very own has made it. That's more than Gardner, Woolston, Waldun, Nesmer, and company can say.

What is a /lit/ user really? Many people in the culture surely have looked at the board, but the idea of a /lit/ writer is usually just some nobody loser, and anyone else similar nobodies will likely reject as not ‘authentic’. I remember you making a thread about the old cover, which seems fairly recent ago, too recent desu for the incoming release - but, the point being, sour ppl here will take that, your other recent exposure, etc. (Honor Levy follows you on twitter for example) as not authentically ‘one of us’, either bc you got connexions or you are savvy enough to get in, get noticed, market yourself (and or are just that good)… Congrats tho!

Gabriel here. I try to post less on /lit/ these days (not really enthused about my publisher or audience associating nigger hate memes with me lol) but I still check by occasionally. However, this is just another example of the whole "muh Trad publishing ruining literature, only issuing woke garbage" narrative being false. Something that is the bread and butter of your fellow Twitter faggotburo.

Modern lit is hot garbage. And the fault lies entirely upon modern writers. Or at least on the "literary" community and who it chooses to hype. This includes lit-adjacent edgelords and femanons.

This looks like more of the same to me. I might be wrong. But I doubt it. Anyways, enjoy your dub.

It's about a bad writer of autofiction whose father dies. He moves back into the family home to (very reluctantly) clear it out for sale. He is trying to write his contractually-obligated second novel, and keeps getting beaten up.

All his skin starts to peel off, like a reptile. In the house he reads unfinished manuscripts his parents, who were both writers, left behind. The manuscripts seem to hint at strange family secrets or alternate futures.

He starts getting haunted by ghosts, who bear some resemblance to characters from the manuscripts. He wants to 'solve the mystery' of where the fictions end and reality begins.

It's meant to be a very literal 'hauntological' ghost story (I wrote it when I was 24 and had just learned this word) and also the inevitable collapse of autofiction/memory/the self into narrative.

This is so stupid, for these reasons:

- Hamlet, at the time it was written, was explicitly mass-market, lowbrow media.

- Hamlet has a subtitle, and it isn't 'a ghost story'.

- Or you're drawing a bizarre false equivalency, in which all media's subject matter defines its cultural cache, and Moby Dick is the same as The Meg.

- Or you're saying Brat is Hamlet-tier.

Just an utterly ridiculous thing to say.
