I happen to like the more adolescent work like Lustra, Personae and Canzoni but those are hard to recommend as they are extremely referential (Browning and the French/ Italians and all that jazz ) as well as very uneven.The good work starts around Hugh Selwyn Mauberley .

His prose is excellent all throughout though. The ABCs and Make It New are all excellent.

There is nothing wrong with his translations. Poetic Chinese is a sparse language allowing for a lot of interpretation. The poems have just symbols in them, single characters without subject, object and so on which would jsut clutter the poem visually. Rmemeber the importance of calligraphy in Chinese poetry/art and you can understand why there's always going to be interpration and multiple possibilities for translation. Pound's translations are among the very best.

I enjoy it and think he has wit and humor along with the kind of subtle profundity that makes poetry coruscate in the night of our prose obsession. To make a poor comparison, Frost had some bangers and a lot of shit with nothing in between, Pound is enjoyable even if it doesn't brain your skull with a rock while you're reading it.
