There are some pretty literate people at my shul. Other than that it's a wasteland, all anyone wants to talk about is movies and shows.

Surprisingly they just appear. I met a man recently in a bar who was high on MDMA who had a copy of Atomised on him, saying it was his favourite book. We also spoke about Hamsun and Celine. Never spoke to him again but I would like to see him once more to get his details

I’m a girl and have tried to find the female equivalents of litbros with near zero success. All of the book clubs for women near me are total trash. I thought maybe if I started my own bookclub I’d attract people with similar reading interests and maybe we could become friends but that hope was squandered fast. Not entirely opposed to a mixed gender event though I find male friendships more difficult to navigate and more complicated given that I have a boyfriend and male female relationships are basically never platonic on all levels. I actually don’t even care if the women read what I like or even read at all, I just want women to befriend that are more intellectual and fun to talk to. Common interest in reading initially seemed to be a good way to meet potential friends, but no.

The only other person I know that reads only reads smut and young adult fiction and parades herself as an intellectual for it, I know people that consume TikTok as their primary source of entertainment that are less insufferable

Anons in this thread need to get on the indoctrination pill right now. Make a friend based on any interest and then turn them into a lit friend with this one simple trick. Find out something they are interested in and tie that interest to a book and then get them to read it. Thats it. Example, my buddy really likes movies, his favorites being scifi stuff like alien, star wars, starship troopers etc. So I gifted him a barns and nobles edition of dune that had the first 3 books in it. He lived it and has now read more sci fi novels than I have and we talk about Asimov and Dick a fare bit. I'm working on steering him into talks about the themes of the novels instead of just how cool scenes are in the hope that I can get him to read some cool nonfiction stuff which he seems to be receptive to already but can't get passed the idea of things like "the ghost in the machine" are more like homework than light reading.

A non fiction example I do have is another buddy I meat at work who is deeply effected by his time in the military. We were talking about music one day and he admitted to being really into Rise Against back in the day and I mentioned that song "hero of war" by them and it got him talking about how he felt that he really drank the cool aid while enlisted. He mentioned that after he got out he felt really dejected and looked into propaganda techniques used by institutions to effectively brain wash their subjects. He was really bothered by the idea that he was manipulated like that. So in passing I just told him that, if it makes him feel any better, we are all being manipulated like that, to which he replied with something like "yeah but at least we are free to rebel against that kind of thing" relating back to our conversation about punk rock. To which I replied with a recommendation to read "commodifying your decent" and sent him a pdf of it. He read it and we still talk about it. I bet I can get him to read McLuhan as a slippery slope to some weirder nonfiction if I could slip it into conversation. It's best to let it happen naturally though. Don't force it.

A girl I know reads new slop.
I told her I was reading Swann's way and though she knew nothing about it, she made fun of me for it.

The best we can get are Liberal Arts girls who listen to podcasts on books.

I can't talk at all to most normies but there are a few that I can talk about books with. It's actually very nice. It's like how other normies have sports or pop culture as a default to bond over. I can see the value in that sort of thing.

>>23102312
you sound kinda based. do you have a penis?

>>23102423
Isn't history one of those topics that has a somewhat broad normie appeal? Like maybe they just watch documentaries or listen to podcasts but you could still talk history

>This would never work. People won't read
I've failed more times than I have succeeded I'll admit but it does work. It helps to provide the material for them, it creates a sense of expectation on top of a non existent entry cost for them. I will also admit that the military guy I knew already had a Tolkien phase when he was a child (one of the only people I know who has read the Silmarillion. I wont even read that shit). And the guy who is into sci-fi as expressed interest in some concepts I have mentioned from Simulation and Simulacra that, coupled with me getting it for him and its low page count, I am sure I could get him to read.

My girlfriend must not be in love with me because the only way I can get her to read anything I suggest (and all I suggest are easy fiction or fanciful poetry.) I need to read something she is into (right now its these damn Maas books) and then I need to read it to her. Its like pulling my own teeth out. Its not even worth the trouble.

This is literally cope. No better than the retards here who say, "pussy is overrated, just focus on yourself bro". You know what you guys sound like? Women. Whiny women. The same fucking whiny ass women you hate.
