any book recommendations on religious philosophy/theology/secular studies? I'm not very well read on this topic.

You should read Leo Strauss & Joseph Cropsey - “History Of Political Philosophy”

For theology, “History Of Christian Thought” by Johnathan Hill

Once you’re acquainted with that, you can pick individual thinkers you find interesting and their individual texts.

Do you have any other recs that give an overview of theology or Christian history (or any book on these topics for that matter)?

browse the pinned post to find theology book charts. but i would just find a bible you are comfortable reading and then find some commentary to supplement it. ancient christian commentary is pretty nice but a little hard to find.

I recommend Myth and Ritual in Christianity by Alan Watts, although it's not about history, in fact it's about defining the Christian myth beyond the limitations of mere history, which imo is a much more relevant perspective. Just the prologue alone is worth reading.

I've been wanting to know about this too. Are there any books explaining things like why Christ had to be sacrificed? I remember seeing a video explaining it logically in two different ways and I'd like to know more about the Bible and how theologians interpret different stories from it. I tried looking at the /lit/ wiki, and it's ass so I couldn't find anything on the subject.
