Any books that talk about/deal with identity? What constitutes the self, how for example one's own memories play a role in this?

New York Trilogy by Paul Auster... (it reminded me of Lain when I first read it as a teenager. It's seemingly very different but the themes and atmosphere are quite similar.) Also, another, more recent read of mine I'd recommend is the Jose Saramago book The Double.
