Philosophers like Plato, Aristotle, Heracleitus, and Parmenides are profiftable to read because they reflect certain modes of thought which exist in every person's mind. The notions of "eternal change and Logos", "generation and essence", "matter and form" already exist on an unconscious level in every human mind, and reading the greeks is seeing them brought out into the open, as active ideas to play with, even if only for the reader to criticize. This largely ended with the enlightenment, which was dedicated largely to the logical analysis of the sources of these intuitions.
