Fuck that was awesome. I thank the guy here that recommended it to me.

If you are currently looking for a book to read, go read it. Nowadays I seldom devour a book in one sitting but this one only took me 4 hours and I was left a shivering pile of admiration.

Read it.

Whatever you do, don't read its sequel Forever Free. It's one of those books which is going along fine, then suddenly takes a nosedive halfway through. I regret ever spending any time on it.

There's a sequel ?... Damn, I know I shouldn't but I guess I have to read it even if it's bad.

I admire this book so much it's like Orwell wrote 1985. I know I shouldn't but I'll read it.

I liked Forever Peace

Ridley Scott releasing film version of Forever War in 2012

Your choice I guess. If you want to know the problem with Forever Free, it has a literal deus ex machina show up halfway through, which is the cause of all the stuff happening in the plot.

>Ridley Scott releasing film version of Forever War in 2012

ffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu-

the anticipation is killing me even if I know it will suck and we'll have avatar 2 instead

Why waste your time with the book when you could just read the summary on wiki?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Forever_War

The title is misleading.

I don't know.
If there's any director that could do the book justice it must be Scott.

BTW there also exists a comic version of Forever War that Haldeman himself cooperated on.

>> No.2301061

You also might like to read Starship Troopers (yes, it's a book) and compare them as Forever War is a reaction by the vietnam veteran Haldeman to this quasi-fascist fantasy written by someone who has never been in a real war.

(Forver War is really Haldeman's vietnam experience. Remember how they return to earth after thousands of years and the population of earth has become 100% gay in order to control overpopulation? It was what the vietnam vets felt when they returned to the US in the late sixties, early seventies. Total alienation. A society that had evolved when they were away in ways that they couldn't comprehend.)

Hm. Searching the torrent sites, can only find audiobooks. What a shame, I guess I'll read it in a few years.

Resist the temptation.
Seriously it's as if Haldeman decided to take a crap in his readers faces 3/4 of the way though that book.

(I kind of wonder if there is story behind it like his publisher demanded he finish the book or something and he just though Fuck You I'm going to write the worst ending of a book ever just to spite them.)

>earth has become 100% gay
Totally not going to read this book.

They weren't gone THAT fuckin long, it probably didn't surprise them at all. Nothing like coming back 5000 years after you left.

I love how this enormously costly and disastrous war was caused because our primitive ships blew up because of shitty builds/incompetent leadership and the powers that be saw blips on radar and shot them down, igniting war with a species that that no prior concept of it.
