What is the Biblical Answer to There Being Prophets After Jesus?

I'm conversing with a Mormon, and I asked why Mormons believe that Jospeh Smith was a prophet and why they believe in his teachings and writings. Here is the repsonse:

1 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.

The New International Version (Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan, 2011), Heb 1:1–2.

For those of us who are hard, soft, or a varied mix of cessationists, we see this verse as being key in linking the Apostolic ministry of the 12 (a designation generally referring to the closest and inner most 12 disciples of Jesus) Apostles along with Paul, with the authoritative ministry of Christ as the final culmination of the prophets. As John the baptist (often understood to be) was the final prophet leading up to Christ, no longer are there prophets in the New Covenant age/period. Don't bother debating, mormons have alternate definitions to common Christian terms which they will use in slimy ways to avoid defeat in debate, and failing that will resort to ignoring arguments or evidence that do not support their claims in favor of simple appeals to emotion.
Ask your opponent if he is aware of second anointing or blood tokens. If not he doesn't possess the information necessary to even begin a debate, and if he does then he's probably either a psychopath or as close to brainwashed as you can get.

Look up parallels between LDS and Islam. It's just the north american version of towelheadism.

If the only response to criticisms of mormonism you can offer is a soijack you might as well just admit you lost.

Read the parable of the Vineyard Owner.
Christ is undoubtedly the son of the vineyard owner. There is no prophet after that isn't simply repeating Christ's Gospel, canonically. There is no other message to be relayed, no higher authority to appeal to. The only thing that comes next is God's wrath.
