>read many books
>learned a lot
>went to lots of book stores
>read in many libraries

And at the end of it all... not a crumb of pussy, money, or status out of any of it.

>inb4 reading is a pure act of intellectualism

Bullshit. Even scholars like Hegel and Schopenhauer were jealous of each other. Even the "based" people learning Latin and Greek and the Bible in depth 100 years ago were doing it for practical reasons such as applying for college or gaining cultural touchstones necessary to fit in with educated people.

The "pure interest" reason is eunuch-tier cope which, ironically, wasn't the reason that all famous writers read or wrote.

If you're in your teens or early 20s, just browse the internet intensely, skim Wikipedia when convenient, and read no more than 8 books a year (selected for their fame).

This is a shitposting trollthread, but this argument is legitimately troublesome & a valid case for maintaining a position of pseudo-intellectualism in the modern world; there exists today access to too much information & elements of our global socioeconomic systems change too quickly for one to rationally justify investing the time & energy into unproductive obscurantism

Why should we maximize productivity or use of time, when it is all arbitrary anyways? I might as well live inside my head by reading, than by doing the same outside.

>pussy
worthless, what pleasure is there in having sex?

>money
one obtains money from action, of course reading does not directly make you any

>status
a function of power and wealth, solely a marker of your value to society, not as a being itself.
