Ultimately the Wager is no substitute for supernatural faith. It's not even the best thing Pascal ever came up with, the guy was a genius. It's a shame it's what he's most known for.

Pascal doesn't advise anyone to actually take the wager. He never published it and didn't want it to be published because he thought it was flawed and not a proper way to exercise faith (and he was right)
Later commenters found it and used it to dunk on him without actually engaging with his actual philosophy. It's like if someone found your diary, picked the stupidest thing you ever spitballed (and dismissed), and then used it to call you a retard.
