Are there any books that are similar to fallout?
And are they any good?

I think they used it during the loading screens

I can't think of any books, but pretty much Mad Max for movies.

It's used during the installation.

Also, similar to Fallout? Just read some post-apocalyptic novels, like The Stand or The Road, etc.

>> No.2288988

The Road. It's like Fallout but with no ammo and you're crying at the end.

>> No.2288993

that looks like the cover for an x-men comic.

anyway, I would like to know this, too.

The Road is the obvious choice, but there must be more.

nigger it's an entire genre

just google "post apocalyptic fiction"

jesus ass

Fallout is more or less inspired by the short story A Boy and His Dog by Harlan Ellison, so I'd imagine that is where you should start.

The postman was excellent and along these lines, I would love to hear any more suggestions as this is my favorite sort of fiction

In addition to everything that's been said so far (except possibly The Postman - that one just gave me a feeling Brin hates post-apoc fiction and everyone who enjoys it):

Riddley Walker, Russel Hoban
Engine Summer, John Crowley
Oryx and Crake, Margaret Atwood
The Viriconium books, M. John Harrison
After London, Richard Jefferies
A Canticle for Leibowitz, Walter Miller

heres some advice OP stay the fuck away from the Stand,.... terrible piece of shit book for babys that is as thick as the fuckin bible and ultimately just a giant waste of time. whenever i hear someone praise this book or King for that matter I just end the conversation and walk away shaking my head.

So Im a big fan of the genre but unfortunately what ive learned is that most P.A. books mostly falls into the meh' category as nothing Ive read yet has been very engaging but I keep reading them regardless,..

So heres what I recommend...
if you want something well written and depressing as all hell then go with the Road

If your looking for a deep dark look at the futility of man go for A canticle for liebewitz

if you want a nice fun pulpy adventure then try out Hieros Journey (riding a giant moose ftw)

also I recomend you checking out books of first hand accounts of the bomb drops of hiroshima and Nagasaki, I remember reading a book in my youth about people who survived the hiroshima bomb drop only to get on a train and head over to nagasaki and get bombed again. this book has forever scarred my views of life and death and fed my post apocalyptic hunger and fears to this day. The descriptions of the victims by the victims is just horrifying.
Of course I cant remember the damn title of it but im sure there are many books similar to it.

Why did I laugh so hard?

It's no coincidence either; Chris Avellone and other main devs for Fallout and Fallout 2 always cited comic books and sci-fi pulps among their main sources of inspiration.
