Do you have an obligation to read the books you recieve as presents?

Only if the giver is prepared to defend the book's thesis or apologize for the errors, as the author or in lieu of the author. If not, it's awfully rude of them to burden one with some rubbish to read when one has carefully curated lists of reading long enough to last several lifetimes.

You should at least read twenty pages of it and be up front about that when you get the book

Yes, you should read every book that’s given to you as a gift

Honestly? Yes. It’s fate

My dad buys me Bill O'Reilly books. I'm not reading them.

I do, at some point. Still waiting to read The Underground Railroad by Whitehead that my nana got me 7ish years ago...

It's not biased against her though, I have an RNG I use for the books I read

It's common courtesy.

Be very thankful you didn't get this for Christmas

Yes and no.
I do about books I actually get, but the only books I get are ones directly from my to read list that I send to my mom and gf so I don't get books I don't want.
When I was younger and I got a book I didn't want I wouldn't care about trying to read it if I wasn't interested by the back or maybe reviews, and will throw it out if it's from someone who wouldn't know. This is still how I feel about it.
