Hello /lit/ I would like to ask for some author recommendations. I have gorged myself on sci-fi books and want to get into medieval fantasy or anything similar. The authors I enjoyed most were Philip K. Dick, Jack Vance, and Gene Wolfe. What authors in the medieval fantasy genre are most similar to them and not Reddit tier?

The Xanth series is pretty cool. Conan too. Try those.

>medieval fantasy
Why don't you just read actual works of medieval fiction and poetry?

I'll gladly take suggestions of those as well. As long as there are modern English translations.

Why was the Eragon book series just Star Wars with a Lord of the Rings paintcoat?

I myself barely ever read good science fiction novels except for Dune, mostly just novellas and short stories. But I have fantasy to recomend with some brief description:
>G.R.R. Martin's fantasy
Tales of Dunk and Egg are his best, currently there are three novellas but the fat man is probably never going to finish the two other promised ones. It's about a wandering knight, really immersive with few fantasy elements. Got me to read fantasy.
A Song of Ice and Fire are fine, they aren't particularly special, mostly because they defined the genre of modern fantasy. It's long, but enjoyable. Wouldn't make you read all of it, but you can try the first book.
>Diskworld by Terry Pratchett
It's a comedy, nothing more, but a really good comedy. Lighthearted and witty. You might need to be familiar with the genre of fantasy to understand the parody.
>Second Apocalypse by R. Scott Bakker
Quite a dive into modern plus dark fantasy. Disturbing and sometimes absurdly fantastical like some weird anime. Gets a lot of shit on /lit/ because everyone here read it and shills are annoying, but it has more new and unexplored concepts, some of which are closer to hard science fiction.
>Lord Dunsany's works
Good classic fantasy, pre-Tolkien. There is a novel King of Elfland's Daughter, might be quite long and tedious because of the time it was written, but definitely better than YA fantasy and other slop. His short stories are also good, even better. I think there are other novel-like works, but they are more like books describing history and mythology of a fictional world.
