Is it a worthwhile read?

>> No.2280076

Yeah, it's OK, mainly for its use of language. Don't expect much in the way of a plot, however.

It's canon.

Just read it. It's pretty good, hipsters love it.

>a bunch of white first world kids go on a road trip before the internet and do drugs + have sex, this is considered "wild and crazy" by discontent suburbanites

haven't read it but this is what I've pretty much written it of as, plus I've heard it's stream of consciousness which also sounds like shit

am I correct?

It's actually about what a shit time he had a lot, and it also paints a pretty cool picture of some lower aspects of American society at the time. In particular the time he spends with Burroughs is great.

Aspects of it, not entirely. I like Kerouacs writing style, it's incredibly down to earth and easy / fun to relate to. If you mainly read nonfiction I doubt you'd like it.

An excellent book that documents an important time in American history.

Read it and you'll see the influence that book/movement has had on the literature/art/music scene from the sixties on...
