This is perhaps an oddly specific request, but I was wondering if you could recommend contemporary German literature or perhaps even podcasts or YouTube videos where literature is discussed in German, perhaps similar to what "Das Literarische Quartett" with Marcel Reich-Ranicki used to be. I'm not asking because I have a particular interest in this type of literature, but because German is my native language and I feel like my vocabulary has atrophied and I'm no longer able to write or speak eloquently simply because almost all of my communication, even my thoughts, are in English. I feel like I can't put my thoughts into words anymore, and I'm hoping that more exposure to the language can help with that. I would also appreciate any other tips or ideas you may have.

Once you find Literatur ist Alles on YouTube all other contemporary channels fall short. No one on Literarisches Quartett and Lesenswert Quartett is impressive in terms of eloquence anymore.

Why don’t you just read in German? Your fluency would go up if you’d explore your own culture instead of following the memes of the eternal anglo

You will never understand german literature unless you know german. all you american english speaking Hegelians are LARPers. Also, the way Hegel wrote in german is using super aristocratic old german which is very hard for the nuGermans to even understand

>I feel like my vocabulary has atrophied and I'm no longer able to write or speak eloquently simply because almost all of my communication, even my thoughts, are in English

picrel came to America from Spain at 13, and his opening lines on the effects of learning English on one's thinking are absolutely a propos (and arguably the best opening lines/pages of any novel in the last century). I'd be miserly about what fiction you read in English in the future so as not to poison this dysfluency malaise further; there are heaps of middling prose stylists in nu 'canon' that are not remotely worth preserving. You have my sympathies and I sincerely hope you enjoy and find commiseration in picrel.

I'm German and live in Germany, but I work in an international team and communicate almost exclusively in English, apart from socializing on the weekends, but that's still very little practice in the language if you don't use it all the time.

The main reason I asked specifically for contemporary literature, even though I despise it, is precisely because the language is applicable in today's world.

I think there's a lot of political bias and agenda behind the recommendations, especially when you consider that critics like Marcel Reich-Ranicki and many authors (Group 47) banded together after WWII to exert significant influence over which authors and books were allowed to become successful. This is one of my problems with much of contemporary literature and the reason I ask for recommendations here rather than taking them from, say, Das Literarische Quartett.

I got a book called Sachwörterbuch der Literatur
Is this a good starting point for reading German?
It's not sewn, the paper looks nice and seems like good quality seeing as the book is 50 years old and hasn't yellowed. It's hardback and about the size of a Pléiade volume
Is this typical of German books?

Arno Schmidt
Gregor van Rezzori

I have started researching independant publishers from Austria, Switzerland and Germany.Look up lists, prizes, indexes, association memberships, subsidies and book fairs (Frankfurt and Leipzig are the biggest) and clickbait articles for new and or old publishers.
Tried some releases from Verlag verlorene Bücher from Austria and Wagenbach ( for some Italian authors)
The Kurt Wolff Stiftung for example.

Falls du englische Bücher stehst, dann St George's in P'Berg.
