That it was better than all the magical realism that came after.

That stuff came before as well as after. He wrote Norwegian Wood to prove he could do without it.

huh, I've only read everything after. Wild Sheep Chase and Wind up Bird were alright. Gave up halfway with 1Q84.

Norwegian Wood is the only Murikami book I recommend to other people.

It's your favorite Murakami. The rest of his books (that you've read) have a nice vibe to them because you find his MCs' calmness in the face of pain and suffering soothing, but this is the only one that's stuck with you. You're embarrassed about it but the MC's dick friend's advice of "never feel sorry of yourself" really resonated with you.

Btw I read on Reddit that Murakami supposedly cant write women but after reading Norwegian Wood I dont understand this complaint at all. Whats wrong with it's female characters? I found them all very memorable and likeable.

The main character is on an airplane and thinks about how everyone he knows has killed themself and how he has had sex with every girl (even the elderly institutionalised ones).

Sick and perverted. If I knew the main character I would kill myself too

The description of the sex between Reiko and the girl was captivating to you. The friend of the MC was incredibly based and you still reread his sections of the book because his advice is genuinely great.
