What is the actual point of reading books in the modern world /lit/?

Why would I waste my eyes on some shit some guy wrote 200 years ago while having 1/100th of the knowledge that I have on the world and on science?

It's like literature is the sitcom of the past. There's nothing Dostoievsky or Mark Twain can teach me about life or the world. They travelled less than i did and even their XIXth knowledge is weak. I already know their stories, I actually read/audiobooked some of their stories in the past, it's very unidimensional and there's nothing to gain from reading it that you wouldn't gain from just reading a summary on Wikipedia.

Is it all just goyslop of its era because they didn't have Seinfeld and shit?

Your "knowledge" comes from TikTok and Reddit.

OK, what does knowledge would you like to gain? If it's sciences and shit then you are retarded for reading Dostoyevsky and thinking he is going to teach you about isomorphic vector spaces or some shit.

If it's stuff about humans and society then you are retarded if you think people back then didn't have a good understanding of that. Even if it is wrong, one might argue that reading a book that is mostly wrong about stuff is more beneficial than reading a truthful book.

I mean what's the fuckin point of anything man? Death nips at all of our feet every moment like the licks of a flame. Henry Ford thought he was saying something profound here, while he spent his meaningless time and meaningless life inventing a meaningless machine, and employing people to assemble parts for them and then sell more of them, collecting meaningless coupons of exchange for himself...
everyone is full of shit except for the man who admits that everything he does is totally meaningless, just as meaningless as what anyone else is happening to do, and justifies it without an appeal to meaning or external value, and instead justifies it with the only true statement humans are capable of making: because he enjoys it, it is HIS preferred diversion from the inevitable spectre of death, thereby it is legitimate, and only through that.
