prizes and awards have never meant anything in the world of literature, so who cares

>> No.22698632

>>22698616

Competitions are all starting to do this but not because the covers are good. They know putting ai wins x award for first time gets clicks. Every photography competition ever was pulling this truck too. Outrage controversy etc, they know it will get clicks, in a year or 2 nobody will care and ai will stop winning anything.

>don't create machines with the mind of man

That's not what we've created. It's more like a really complicated search engine that can search for things that only partially exist.

Still, it won't change the fact that in the near future all the books will have ugly AI made covers

This. Prizes and awards in general are given out by midwits that don't and cannot understand art. That's why the Oscars is filled with complete trash.
They gave the Nobel Peace Prize to fucking Obama, bro. Adolf fucking Hitler was Time's Person of the Year, that's how dumb these guys are.

The Pulitzer Prize Board appoints over 100 jurors. If they can't reach a majority, they don't issue an award at all. If an AI wins the Pulitzer, it would have to be pretty damn convincing.

>>22698636
LLMs are based on how the human brain works, but it's still not human. But you're pretty much right--it ends up being a very very fancy search engine. We're a ways off from anything that has "feelings" and its own motivations.

>We're a ways off from anything that has "feelings" and its own motivations

Probably not as far as you think. The billionaire booty boy club are desperate for immortality. The intent of LLM research is likely not AI persay but emulating an existing human mind. Chances are we'll see the first upload before everything starts to get really bad.

>emulating an existing human mind
Nobody is stupid enough to think this will actually work or make them "immortal"

The idea of an AI with consciousness, feelings, or motivations is still science fiction and speculation. AI just mimics it's UNDERSTANDING of data it's been trained on.

Right now, AI is just a tool and won't be able to write the great American novel. It won't even have based titty sucking like Grapes of Wrath.

>> No.22698737

>>22698726

We can already train a model - in minutes - to give responses similar to the responses of a particular person and to mimic their appearance accurately. Corporations have more rights than people anyway. Having an ai that closely mimics you and manages your trusts forever is probably close enough to immortality to suit the vanity of many. Hell, these idiots are running vanity space programs...

>100 jurors.

Maybe in total, but not for each category. Fiction prize is decided by only five jurors.

>Having an ai that closely mimics you and manages your trusts forever is probably close enough to immortality to suit the vanity of many
Again, if you think about it for 5 seconds you realize that even if that AI is conscious it's not you, it's a copy. You still end up dying. I don't see how this could tickle anyone's vanity, at least with a space program you're around to see it working

>Adolf fucking Hitler was Time's Person of the Year
Because he was by far the most influential man that year which is the whole point. It's not an award in the first place.

Wut? The juries only appoint the nominees and then the Prize Board makes the actual selections. And they only decline to issue the award in special cases when they consider all the nominees to be shit which has happened like twice in fiction awards.
