When Dennett says consciousness is an illusion, he's not saying that it doesn't exist. He's saying that it doesn't have the properties traditionally attributed to it such as infallibility about one's own mental states, taking place "right here right now", or involving qualia with intrinsic properties. He uses the word 'illusion' to refer to a user illusion. Your smartphone and computer have a user illusion. They have icons, sounds, folders, things are colour-coded etc. But if you look inside the computer there are no such things, only 1's and 0's. If you had to directly manipulate the 1's and 0's it would be impossible to do the most basic task. Therefore the user illusion of the computer allows you to use such a complex thing, and the user illusion of consciousness allows us to use our brains which are much more complex than any computer. We don't have infallible knowledge of our own minds because we only have access to a small, highly-edited version of what's going on. That's why introspection is a bad method of studying the mind. It's like trying to find out how a computer works by studying how you can move icons around and open folders on a computer screen.

Dennett affirms determinism and free will. Just like how he says consciousness exists, it's just not what we thought it was. He says free will exists, just not as traditionally conceived. Free-will doesn't mean being able to break the laws of physics. At the level of physics everything is determined, so to say that humans are also determined isn't interesting. The difference between things that have free will and those that don't is found at the level of biology. Free will means being able to control how you move through the world and respond to stimuli in your environment. Everyone's determined, but some people (e.g. the senile or mentally disabled) can't control themselves, so we don't give them freedoms such as signing contracts.
